A Free Book for All Children for World Book Day

The Heroes in Publishing Aren’t Always Who You Think
What happens when you mix World Book and Copyright Day with a team of mental health experts and 1700 children during a global pandemic?

You get an informative and emotionally intelligent book about big scary topics, like COVID19.
And that’s exactly what happened when the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Reference Group on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings (IASC MHPSS RG) began a collaborative project with local and global leaders, teachers, parents, children and organisations.

Here’s what went down:
An en-masse survey was distributed across 104 countries in multiple languages; Arabic, English, Italian, French and Spanish. The global survey was primarily used to assess children’s mental health and wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic. A whopping 1700 children contributed their thoughts and feelings to the survey.

The themes that surfaced from the survey feedback were then used to develop a story. That story was then shared back to them in a storytelling-style book. The children, along with their parents, teachers, guardians and caregivers were asked to review and update the story.
What resulted from this story is a beautiful book called My Hero is You.

This is a free book developed for and by children across the globe. It forms a therapeutic narrative of their hopes, fears and solutions to the COVID-19 crisis.
To help us celebrate World Book and Copyright Day, we’d love you to download this sweet and meaningful book and share it with children and families that you think would benefit.

Collaborative Publishing
My Hero is You is one of the best collaborative efforts we’ve seen in publishing. 1700 voices all being heard together in one seamless story. Remarkable.

We love joint ventures in publishing. This style of sharing stories and writing together is exactly what we love to do at Dean Publishing. As you may have seen, we have done multiple book collaborations for many of our books:

Resilience – Building a Powerful Mindset
Legacy – The Sustainable Development Goals in Action
Better Business, Better Life, Better World
Love and Coaching: Understanding Men and Women in Life, Love and Business.
Living Your Dream, Your Way.

Collaborative publishing is a powerful publishing medium. Share stories help us unite together as human beings and show that we are more alike than we are different. Sharing stories is an ancient method of remembering, keeping culture and connection alive in the now. It will never go out of fashion because it’s in DNA.

We are storytelling creatures by nature.
One of our upcoming authors, leader and entrepreneur Joshua Ngoma says that in his hometown in South Africa they have a saying, “If you want to go slow, go alone. If you want to go fast, go together.”

And though, going together isn’t allowed at the moment (yep, social distancing) – this wisdom isn’t about physical unity, it’s about collaboration and togetherness. A powerful way to live and a powerful way to publish.

So, let’s go together.
Happy World Book and Copyright Day everyone!
If you want to share forward your story, or create your own group and publish a compilation-style book together, then give us a call. We’d love to help.
